A Russian strike hit Kyiv’s Northern Bridge, damaging its road surface and trolleybus overhead wires, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Saturday, according to Reuters.
“The North Bridge is being hit. Emergency services are on their way,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram. He said traffic from the left bank to the right bank was blocked.
Bridge strikes in Kyiv
The attack followed repeated Russian drone strikes on the Southern Bridge since Thursday. The two bridges connect the eastern and western parts of the Ukrainian capital.
Neither bridge had been hit before Thursday’s attacks, marking a new phase in the strikes, the report said.
Mayor warns of damage to critical infrastructure
After the attacks on the Southern Bridge, Kyiv’s defence council held an emergency meeting on Friday. Klitschko said intensified Russian drone and missile strikes were “tearing Kyiv apart”.
He described the city as being in a “very dramatic situation”, saying Russian attacks were hitting critical infrastructure, logistics, housing and other key facilities.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Moscow is acting in response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy facilities. The report said Russia had launched such attacks first.
