Russia and Ukraine traded accusations over overnight attacks on Tuesday, with Russian authorities reporting two deaths in the region surrounding Moscow.
Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said 185 drones were downed across 16 municipalities. He later raised the reported death toll to two and said nine people had been injured.
Vorobyov said the attacks damaged 47 private homes across seven municipalities. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin separately said 650 drones had flown toward the Moscow region between 8:30 p.m. (1730 GMT) on Monday and 5 a.m. (0200 GMT) on Tuesday. He said 105 were destroyed as they approached the capital, with 29 more later shot down.
Authorities also reported one person injured in Russia’s Smolensk region and two injured in the border region of Bryansk.
In Ukraine, acting Zaporizhzhia regional military administration head Mykhailo Semikin said at least five people were injured in a nighttime strike on a residential building in the regional capital. The State Emergency Service said 11 other people were rescued and search operations had ended.
In Kyiv, emergency workers extinguished a fire on the roof of an educational institution in the Obolonskyi district after a Russian strike on Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported.
Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said a building belonging to a private company was damaged in an overnight attack on the regional capital. A fire was quickly extinguished, and no casualties were reported. Cleanup work was underway, he said.
Neither Moscow nor Kyiv had commented on the other side’s claims. The claims could not be independently verified.
The two countries have increased their strikes in recent months, targeting logistics hubs, ports and energy infrastructure. Both deny deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, saying their attacks are aimed at military targets or facilities linked to military activity.
