Russia has handed over the bodies of 1,000 fallen Ukrainian servicemen to the Ukrainian side as part of a recent exchange process.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the Russian President, shared this information on his official Telegram channel. According to the statement, the exchange involved a significant disparity in numbers, with 1,000 Ukrainian remains being repatriated in return for 35 Russian soldiers.

"The bodies of 1,000 fallen Ukrainian soldiers were handed over to Ukraine. The bodies of 35 fallen Russian soldiers were returned to Russia," Medinsky stated in his post, highlighting the scale of the transfer operation.

The exchange of remains between the warring parties is a critical humanitarian component of the ongoing conflict, often facilitated by international intermediaries such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). These processes are essential for identifying the deceased and allowing families to conduct proper burials. Since the escalation of hostilities, several such exchanges have taken place, though the scale of this particular transfer is among the largest reported in recent months. Such efforts continue alongside negotiations regarding the exchange of prisoners of war and other humanitarian corridors.
