At least 31 civilians were killed and 19 injured in a drone strike attributed to Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a displacement camp in Blue Nile state, the Sudan Doctors Network said Friday.
The medical group said the strike hit a gathering of displaced people in the Abu Shandi area of Wad Al-Mahi locality in southeastern Sudan.
Four children were among those killed. The injured included six children and eight women, the network said.
The group said the victims were unarmed civilians who had fled the conflict in search of safety. It condemned the attack, described it as a war crime and a violation of international humanitarian law, and held the RSF responsible.
The network called on the United Nations, humanitarian agencies and international human rights organizations to condemn the attack and take urgent action to protect civilians. The RSF did not immediately comment on the allegations.
Violence has escalated in Blue Nile state in recent weeks, with the RSF and its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), launching attacks in several areas.
On Oct. 3, Sudanese authorities accused the RSF of carrying out drone strikes against the governor’s residence and civilian sites in Damazin, the state capital.
Sudan has been embroiled in fighting between the army and the RSF since April 2023. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and about 13 million displaced, according to UN and international estimates.
