Qarabag has been eliminated from the UEFA Conference League following a challenging match in the playoff round.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the team, led by head coach Gurban Gurbanov, hosted the Dutch club Twente in the return leg of the playoff stage at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium.
The regulation time of the match concluded with a 2-1 victory for the visiting side. Qarabag's Kadi Borges opened the scoring in the 59th minute. Twente's Marko Pjaca equalized in the 80th minute, followed by a goal from Max Bruns in the 90+2nd minute.
As Qarabag had secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg in the Netherlands, the match proceeded to extra time. In the 94th minute, Wout Weghorst scored for the Enschede-based team. The situation worsened for the Aghdam club in the 106th minute when Marko Jankovic was sent off, leaving the team with ten men. Younes Taha sealed the 4-1 victory for Twente in the 115th minute.
This defeat marks the end of a significant era for Qarabag, as the club's successful streak of competing in the main stages of European tournaments for 12 consecutive seasons has been broken. Qarabag, representing Azerbaijan, has long been a consistent presence in UEFA competitions, frequently reaching the group stages of the Europa League and the Conference League, thereby raising the profile of Azerbaijani football on the international stage.
