Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a congratulatory letter to President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Azerbaijan's Independence Day.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the letter highlighted Azerbaijan's significant achievements in economic and social spheres, as well as its growing reputation on the global stage. Putin emphasized the importance of friendly and allied relations between Moscow and Baku, expressing confidence in further strengthening bilateral cooperation and partnership in regional and international matters. "This undoubtedly meets the core interests of the peoples of Russia and Azerbaijan, and contributes to strengthening security and stability in the South Caucasus and the Caspian region," the letter reads.

Independence Day in Azerbaijan, celebrated on May 28, commemorates the declaration of independence of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) in 1918, which was the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world. Azerbaijan and Russia maintain active diplomatic and economic relations, reinforced by the Declaration on Allied Interaction signed in February 2022.
