President Ilham Aliyev has shared a video on his official social media accounts documenting his visit to Martyrs' Alley in Baku to honor the victims of the January 20 tragedy.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the video was released under the title "January 20 - National Mourning Day." The footage depicts the head of state paying tribute to the heroic sons of Azerbaijan who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence and territorial integrity.
January 20, known as "Black January," marks a pivotal turning point in Azerbaijan's history. In 1990, Soviet troops entered Baku to suppress the national independence movement, resulting in numerous civilian casualties. Every year, the people of Azerbaijan visit Martyrs' Alley to commemorate the martyrs, a site that has become a symbol of national pride and the struggle for sovereignty.
