President Ilham Aliyev met with the President of Northern Cyprus, Tufan Erhurman, in Antalya on April 17 to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and regional cooperation.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state extended his congratulations to Tufan Erhurman on his election as President. President Erhurman expressed his gratitude for the congratulations and thanked the Azerbaijani leader for the continuous support provided to Northern Cyprus. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan has always stood by Northern Cyprus and reaffirmed that this support will continue in the future.
During the conversation, the parties highlighted the significance of the third meeting of the inter-parliamentary friendship groups between the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan, the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye, and the Assembly of Northern Cyprus, which took place in Baku this April. The meeting also underscored the importance of Northern Cyprus's participation in the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) as an observer and included discussions on expanding cooperation across various sectors.
Azerbaijan has consistently advocated for the integration of Northern Cyprus into the Turkic world, viewing it as an integral part of the broader Turkic family. The strengthening of relations between Baku and Lefkosa aligns with Azerbaijan's foreign policy priority of fostering unity among Turkic-speaking nations and supporting the cultural and political rights of Turkic communities globally.
