President Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to the President of the Republic of South Africa, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, on the occasion of the country's national holiday, Freedom Day.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Azerbaijani leader expressed his sincere congratulations on behalf of himself and the people of Azerbaijan. "I believe that the friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and South Africa will continue to successfully develop and expand through our joint efforts, both on a bilateral basis and within multilateral frameworks, in accordance with the interests of our peoples," the letter stated. President Ilham Aliyev also extended his best wishes for the peace and prosperity of the South African people.

Freedom Day is a significant public holiday in South Africa, celebrated annually on April 27 to commemorate the first post-apartheid elections held in 1994. Azerbaijan and South Africa maintain diplomatic relations characterized by cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement. The two nations continue to explore opportunities for enhancing economic ties, particularly in sectors such as energy, trade, and investment, while supporting each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity on the global stage.
