President Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Samanta Mostyn, on the occasion of the country's national holiday.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the letter expressed the Azerbaijani leader's best wishes to the Governor-General and the people of Australia.
"On my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan, I extend my most sincere congratulations to you and your people on the occasion of the national holiday of the Commonwealth of Australia," the letter reads. President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that joint efforts will continue to develop relations between Azerbaijan and Australia in a spirit of friendship and to maintain mutually beneficial cooperation in accordance with the interests of both nations. "On this festive day, I wish you robust health, success in your activities, and everlasting peace and prosperity to the friendly people of Australia," the head of state added.
Australia Day, celebrated annually on January 26, marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove. Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Australia were established in 1992, and the two countries have since maintained cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations. This diplomatic outreach underscores Azerbaijan's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with nations across the Oceania region and fostering global partnerships.
