President Ilham Aliyev addressed the necessity of reforms within the United Nations during his speech at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state highlighted Azerbaijan's active role in advocating for these changes. "As the chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, we proposed our version of reforms. It must be comprehensive and ensure proper representation," President Ilham Aliyev stated.
The President outlined a specific proposal for the UN Security Council: "Our proposal is that one permanent seat should be given to the chair of the Non-Aligned Movement on a rotating basis, and it should have veto power. Another seat should be allocated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as Muslim countries are currently underrepresented. This should also be on a rotating basis. One more seat should be allocated to the African Union, where the chair of the African Union at that time should be represented. This would be a fair approach to the Security Council."
The Shusha Global Media Forum, which brings together international journalists, experts, and media executives, serves as a significant platform for discussing global challenges, media ethics, and geopolitical shifts. By hosting such high-level events in Shusha—the cultural capital of Azerbaijan—the country continues to demonstrate its commitment to international dialogue and its vision for a more equitable global governance structure, particularly in the post-conflict reconstruction era in the Garabagh region.
