Portugal's Minister of Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel has held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) told Operative Information Center-OMM that during the phone call, the sides exchanged views on regional and international security issues. The ministers reviewed the risks posed to regional security against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. In this context, the recent drone attack launched from Iranian territory against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan was emphasized as unacceptable and strongly condemned.
The discussion also covered the current state and development prospects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Portugal, including political dialogue, economic cooperation, and other matters of mutual interest. Both ministers highlighted the importance of continuing mutual contacts and high-level engagement to further strengthen ties between Baku and Lisbon.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Portugal were established in 1992, and the two nations have since worked to expand cooperation within international organizations, including the United Nations and the OSCE. This latest high-level communication underscores Azerbaijan's active foreign policy in maintaining regional stability and fostering partnerships with European Union member states.
