Kyrgyzstan has officially handed over the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to Pakistan. This transition marks a significant shift in the leadership of the influential regional bloc.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the announcement was made by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov following the conclusion of the SCO summit held in Bishkek. During the proceedings, President Japarov extended his well wishes to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as he assumes the new responsibilities.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, established in 2001, serves as a pivotal Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance. Its member states collaborate on critical issues ranging from counter-terrorism and regional stability to trade and energy infrastructure development. The rotating chairmanship is a key mechanism within the organization, allowing member nations to set the agenda and prioritize specific regional initiatives during their tenure.
