Nearly 40 international travelers from 13 countries have completed a three-day visit to Azerbaijan’s Garabagh and East Zangezur regions. Participants visited historical sites, reconstruction projects and areas where mine-clearance operations are underway.
The delegation was led by US traveler Charles Veley, founder of the international Most Traveled People (MTP) community, established in 2005. Participants also came from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
The first two days of the visit focused on historical sites
The visit began on the first day at Azykh Cave in the Khojavend district before continuing to Shusha. The delegation visited the Lower Govhar Agha Mosque, the house-museum of Sadigjan and other cultural heritage sites.
In Khankendi, the travelers visited the Victory Museum and the Conference Center. They also viewed the Khankendi stadium, where reconstruction work is underway. At the end of the day, they visited the Aghdam Mosque and the Imarat complex.
The second day of the visit was spent in the Kalbajar and Aghdara districts. In Kalbajar, the group visited the Khudavang monastic complex; in Aghdara, they toured the medieval Gandzasar Monastery, known for its stonework and decorative details.
MTP members spoke to AnewZ television and shared their impressions of the region’s historical sites, landscapes and ongoing reconstruction work.
Infrastructure and mine-clearance work in Zangilan and Jabrayil
On the final day, the delegation traveled to the Zangilan district, where reconstruction is continuing in a mountainous area surrounded by rivers. The travelers also learned about the Horadiz-Aghbend railway project, which is 140.5 kilometers long, including station tracks.
Nine stations are planned along the railway: Horadiz, Yukhari Marjanli, Shukur beyli, Soltanli, Gumlag, Hakari, Minjivan, Bartaz and Aghbend.
The group then went to Hasanli village in the Jabrayil district to observe mine-clearance operations. Employees of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) briefed them on the scale of mine contamination, methods for neutralizing explosives and the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance.
On the final day of the visit, delegation members also shared their thoughts on what they had experienced and seen in Garabagh and East Zangezur.
This was the 17th visit to Garabagh and East Zangezur organized for major international travel clubs since 2021. Over three days, participants saw a range of sites, from ancient caves and medieval monasteries to modern infrastructure projects and mine-clearance operations.
