Mourinho says Real Madrid cannot go years without success

Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho said the club cannot go several years without achieving major results. He said the Madrid club’s history of success sets expectations at a different level.

Mourinho referred to comments Mikel Arteta made after extending his contract with Arsenal. Arteta said that even after working at the London club for four or five years, the team was still at the beginning of its journey and had a great deal of work ahead.

Mourinho: “We need time”

The Portuguese coach said Real Madrid had gone through a difficult period in recent seasons, but situations that might seem ordinary at other clubs are viewed differently at the Madrid side. He said time and hard work were essential for the team’s development.

Mourinho said periods with less work on the pitch provide more opportunity to analyse every detail, and that the initial stage had helped identify both positive aspects and areas for improvement. However, he said major changes were not needed.

The head coach also spoke about the defeat to Atletico Madrid. Referring to the match, Mourinho said “11 players had to play against nine,” but added that instead of dwelling on that, the team should seek progress in areas it can control. He said they would try to make adjustments to improve certain aspects in their next match.
