Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho has responded to criticism of refereeing in La Liga, saying he did not want to discuss the issue at length before a Champions League match.
Mourinho suggested watching the first minute of Real Madrid’s 0-1 defeat to Villarreal in the eighth round of the Spanish league. In the 72nd minute of that match, Madrid player Vinicius was sent off with a red card.
Asked whether his players were feeling under pressure in La Liga, the head coach said there was a reason for it. He said he trusted all referees in Europe and in the league before matches.
Mourinho said he found it strange that the names of referees were announced only 24 hours before a match, when the information was known three weeks in advance. He also said criticism of issues that were clearly visible was not direct enough. Marca reported his remarks.
