MLS chief Don Garber said he would like Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane to join the North American league in the future. The England captain has previously said he had considered the possibility of moving to MLS at the next stage of his career.
Garber told ESPN that he wants to see Kane play in the league. MLS aims to build a competition that top-level players want to join and that contributes to the development of football, he said.
The MLS chief cited Lionel Messi’s move to the United States as an example of what the league can achieve. Garber said there had been strong competition for Messi before he chose Inter Miami. The league sought to offer the Argentine player more attractive terms than a return to Barcelona or a move to Saudi Arabia.
After Messi chose Miami, he helped the club build its new stadium, set records and won the MVP award, Garber said. He also recalled the send-off Messi received as he brought his career with Argentina’s national team to a close.
Kane won the 2025/26 European Golden Shoe, awarded to the leading goalscorer in Europe’s domestic leagues, and is considered one of the main contenders for the Ballon d’Or.
