Debris from a ballistic missile intercepted over Riyadh fell in the Saudi capital on Thursday, causing property damage, the Saudi Civil Defense said.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA), citing a Civil Defense spokesperson, reported that emergency teams responded after the missile was intercepted and destroyed.
The spokesperson said the missile had been launched by Yemen’s Houthi group. Debris damaged a kindergarten and a medical clinic complex, the official added.
The incident comes amid an escalation in Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi airports, military sites and oil infrastructure.
Yemeni government forces launched a new offensive this week, called “Dawn of Yemen,” aimed at restoring state institutions and retaking territory held by the Houthis.
Yemen has been in conflict since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in 2014. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government, and fighting resumed in July after a period of relative calm following the 2022 truce.
