The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan has issued an urgent appeal to the public regarding expected adverse weather conditions, including strong winds and heavy rainfall.

This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the ministry.

According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, strong winds are expected across the country until August 30. The forecast also warns of localized heavy rainfall and potential short-term flash floods in some mountain rivers.

In light of these warnings, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has reiterated essential safety protocols. During periods of high winds, citizens are advised to avoid staying near lightweight or temporary structures, billboards, and advertising signs. It is also recommended to steer clear of electrical poles, power lines, and tall trees.

Small vessel operators are reminded that maritime activities are prohibited under such weather conditions. Given the popularity of coastal areas during the summer season, the ministry emphasizes that swimming in the sea during strong winds poses a significant danger to life.

Furthermore, to mitigate risks associated with potential floods and flash floods, the public is urged to avoid areas prone to such hazards. In the event of a flood, individuals should immediately seek higher ground. Regarding lightning safety, the ministry advises disconnecting electrical appliances, refraining from using landline or mobile phones, and avoiding proximity to power lines, lightning rods, or antennas. If caught in a vehicle during a lightning storm, drivers should stop, close the windows, and remain inside until the storm passes.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations plays a critical role in disaster management and public safety in Azerbaijan. By providing timely warnings and safety guidelines, the ministry aims to minimize the impact of natural disasters and protect citizens across the country's diverse geographical regions.
