A powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake has struck the Fiji islands region, according to international monitoring agencies.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) confirmed the seismic activity. The tremors were recorded at a significant depth, which is characteristic of seismic events in this part of the Pacific Ocean.

There have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage to infrastructure following the earthquake. Local authorities and emergency services are monitoring the situation, though no tsunami warnings were issued immediately following the event.

Fiji is located within the "Ring of Fire," a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. The region is highly active seismically due to the movement of tectonic plates, frequently experiencing tremors of varying magnitudes. Such events are a common occurrence in the South Pacific, where the Pacific plate subducts beneath the Indo-Australian plate.
