Tottenham midfielder James Maddison reflected on his goal and Dejan Kulusevski’s return after his side beat Coventry 3-1 in the seventh round of the English Premier League. Both players had been recovering from anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
In the match played on October 19, 2026, Maddison opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Coventry’s Rudoni equalised in the 49th minute, and Marmoush put Tottenham back in front in the 58th. Ben Davies sealed the result in the 90+6th minute. The match kicked off at 10 p.m. Moscow time.
Maddison said he and the head coach had discussed during the week whether the time was right for him to return to the starting lineup. He said the start of the season had been stop-start and that he wanted to put in a good performance and show what the team had been missing over the past 18 months. The midfielder also said he was pleased with his goal.
“During the difficult days of recovery from an ACL rupture, you dream of moments and goals like these. This is the light at the end of the tunnel. Seeing Dejan Kulusevski return to the pitch today made me feel strong emotions and pride. I understood well how he felt after such a long break. All these difficulties are worth enduring for moments and goals like this,” Maddison said, according to Sky Sports.
Kulusevski made his first appearance for Tottenham in 526 days.
