Former Qarabag goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski has compared the standard of Poland’s league with the Azerbaijan Premier League. The 26-year-old, who currently plays for Polish club Wieczysta, shared his views in an interview with Goal.
Kochalski said Poland’s Ekstraklasa is superior in every respect: “I think everything is better in the Polish Ekstraklasa. Everything, without exception. There is nothing in Azerbaijan that is better.”
He said Qarabag could challenge for a top-three finish in the Polish league, while Sabah, which qualified for the Champions League, could also finish high in the table. In Kochalski’s view, Azerbaijan’s other teams would struggle to stay in the Polish league.
The goalkeeper did not rule out moving to a higher-level league in the future, but said he is currently focused on performing well for Wieczysta. He also noted strong competition for the goalkeeper position in the Poland national team and said his main goal is to play regularly for his club.
Kochalski moved from Stal to Qarabag in 2024, became an Azerbaijan champion with the Aghdam club and played in the Champions League. In the summer of 2026, he left Qarabag and joined Wieczysta.
