Italian police have discovered €3.2 million in cash, worth more than $3.6 million, hidden inside the walls of a house during an operation targeting an alleged mafia-linked criminal organization near Naples.
The money, consisting mainly of €50 banknotes wrapped in plastic, was found after officers broke through the walls of a property in Caivano, Italian news agency ANSA reported. Eleven luxury watches valued at more than €127,000 were also seized.
34 suspects targeted in investigation
The operation involved 34 suspects. Of those, 23 were ordered into custody while 11 were placed under house arrest.
Investigators believe the organization was linked to the Angelino clan, which operates in Caivano and Casoria, and was involved in drug trafficking and extortion.
Investigation examined activities from 2021
According to ANSA, collaborators of justice played a decisive role in the investigation. Carabinieri found the cash while searching the home of a person believed to be one of the group’s leaders.
The investigation covered alleged activities between 2021 and July 2025. It also examined how drug sales were organized, including regular deliveries and payment schedules.
Investigators said some of the alleged dealing operations were managed largely within families to reduce the involvement of outsiders.
