About 10 Israeli military vehicles advanced near the Abdeen Dam in Daraa, southern Syria, on Thursday as Israeli aircraft flew over the area, Syrian state media outlet “Alikhbariah TV” reported.
The forces approached the dam while military aircraft flew over Daraa, which borders the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, the broadcaster said on Friday. It added that Israeli troops fired indiscriminately toward farmland and searched homes in the eastern part of Abdeen village.
Earlier on Thursday, Israeli forces set fire to a house and a fodder warehouse in rural Daraa, according to the broadcaster. It did not provide details about possible casualties or the extent of the damage.
The incident followed an Israeli force of five vehicles entering the same area through the Tel Abu Ghaithar gate, adjacent to the occupied Golan Heights, a day earlier, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported.
SANA said the force raided a local resident’s home, detained several young men for about an hour, seized a motorcycle and fired toward unoccupied land before withdrawing.
Israel has stepped up military operations in Syria since the fall of Bashar Assad’s government in December 2024, carrying out airstrikes on military sites and expanding its presence in the buffer zone of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
Syrian authorities have repeatedly condemned Israeli incursions and attacks as violations of the country’s sovereignty and called on Israel to withdraw to the positions stipulated in the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
Damascus and Tel Aviv have also been engaged in US-mediated negotiations aimed at reaching security arrangements and restoring the 1974 agreement.
