Iraqi Airways resumed flights between Najaf International Airport and Iranian airports on Monday, according to Iraqi state media.
The services restarted following what the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) described as “intensive efforts” by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.
Iraqi Ambassador to Iran Yasser Abdul Zahra Al-Hajjaj said earlier on Monday that Najaf International Airport would resume receiving flights from Iran, INA reported.
Flights suspended after US sanctions
Iraq, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Oman and the United Arab Emirates had earlier suspended flights to and from Iran after the United States imposed new sanctions on Iran’s aviation sector.
