Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev discussed deepening ties between the two countries and implementing existing agreements at a meeting in Tehran.
According to the news portal of the Iranian Presidential Administration, Pezeshkian described the two peoples as “kin and brotherly.” He stressed the importance of making maximum use of the countries’ potential and geographical advantages to develop bilateral relations and strengthen ties between their peoples.
The Iranian president said air and rail routes should be expanded and better integrated. Strengthening transport links, he added, would create new opportunities to consolidate relations between the two countries.
Common border creates opportunities for cooperation
Pezeshkian said it was important to view the common border as an opportunity to expand cooperation. He welcomed the agreements reached during Shahin Mustafayev’s meetings in Tehran with Iran’s minister of roads and urban development and other government officials.
The Iranian president said scientific, cultural, economic, political and security ties were closely interconnected, stressing that joint efforts were necessary to further strengthen cooperation.
Shahin Mustafayev reports on Tehran talks
Shahin Mustafayev briefed the Iranian president on his talks with Iranian officials on Monday and Tuesday as part of a meeting of the Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation.
Azerbaijan’s deputy prime minister reaffirmed his country’s readiness to further develop relations with Iran. He stressed the importance of implementing existing agreements and memorandums of understanding, as well as ensuring their consistent follow-up.
Infrastructure projects to boost transport and trade
Farzaneh Sadegh, Iran’s minister of roads and urban development and co-chair of the joint commission, said infrastructure projects would expand transport and trade opportunities between the two countries.
The minister, quoted by Iran’s state news agency IRNA, said friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries created broad opportunities for developing cooperation in various fields. She said bilateral ties and cooperation would expand in the future.
According to the Iranian Presidential Administration, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called Masoud Pezeshkian by phone on Tuesday to congratulate him on his birthday and wish him good health, a long life and success.
During the conversation, the two leaders recalled their latest meeting in Bishkek and discussed issues raised at that meeting. Reviewing the current state of bilateral relations, the sides stressed the importance of continuing consultations and strengthening ties.
Iran and Azerbaijan share a common border and have developed cooperation in transport, trade, energy and other areas. Projects connecting road and rail networks are intended to facilitate cross-border movement and support broader regional economic links.
