President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received FIFA President Gianni Infantino on September 29.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev thanked Gianni Infantino for his support for efforts to develop football at the state level worldwide, including in Azerbaijan.
The head of state said preparations for the FIFA U-15 World Cup and festival for boys, which will be held in Azerbaijan for the first time next month, as well as for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2027, were progressing at a high level. Highlighting the importance of Azerbaijan’s participation in these sporting events, President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that they would contribute to the development of football across the region as a whole.
Gianni Infantino thanked the head of state for receiving him.
Referring to the importance of the FIFA U-15 World Cup and festival for boys, which will be held in Azerbaijan for the first time, the guest said the event would draw the attention of the global sports community.
The meeting also covered efforts to develop football in Azerbaijan and recent achievements in the field.
The sides highlighted the successful cooperation established between Azerbaijan and FIFA and discussed prospects for the partnership.
During the conversation, the support provided by the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) for FIFA’s activities was noted with satisfaction.

The FIFA U-15 World Cup and festival will provide young players with an international platform and further strengthen Azerbaijan’s role in hosting major football events. FIFA tournaments also help promote youth development and broaden cooperation among national football associations.
