President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Alley of Honor in Baku on May 9 to pay tribute to the memory of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, marking the 103rd anniversary of his birth.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev laid a wreath at the grave of the National Leader and honored his memory with deep respect. First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva also paid her respects at the graveside of the Great Leader. Following the commemoration, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was performed by the ceremonial guard.
The President and First Lady also honored the memory of the National Leader's spouse, the prominent ophthalmologist and academician Zarifa Aliyeva, by laying flowers at her grave. Additionally, they paid tribute to the memories of the renowned statesman Aziz Aliyev and Professor Tamerlan Aliyev.
Heydar Aliyev, widely regarded as the architect and founder of the modern independent state of Azerbaijan, served as the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan from 1993 to 2003. His leadership is credited with establishing political stability and economic growth in the country following the early years of independence. The annual commemoration at the Alley of Honor serves as a significant national event, reflecting the enduring legacy of his domestic and foreign policy doctrines in contemporary Azerbaijan.
