The Houthi group said on Saturday that Saudi airstrikes targeted Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and the northern province of Saada amid rising tensions in the country.
In a post on “X”, the group’s “Al-Masirah TV” said Saudi aircraft fired missiles at a telecommunications network in Saqain district and at Maran, both in Saada province.
The independent “Al-Masdar Online” website reported hearing eight explosions from airstrikes at sites in Sanaa, along with aircraft flying overhead. There were no immediate details about injuries or damage.
No immediate response from Saudi authorities
Saudi authorities and the Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen’s internationally recognised government, had not immediately commented on the Houthi claims.
Earlier on Saturday, Saudi Civil Defense said shrapnel from an intercepted Houthi ballistic missile injured an Asian national in the southern Asir region.
On Friday, Civil Defense said a Houthi projectile struck a school in the southern Saudi city of Najran, causing property damage but no injuries. The Saudi-led coalition also said it intercepted and destroyed four ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia.
Conflict has continued since 2015
On July 20, the Houthi group announced a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, saying it was responding to what it described as a Saudi naval and air siege on areas under its control in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government against Houthi forces since March 2015. The Houthis have controlled Sanaa and several governorates since September 2014.
