US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel on Monday during an unannounced visit, Anadolu Agency reported, citing Axios.
Axios said the information came from two sources familiar with the meeting. The visit took place eight days before Israel’s Knesset elections and as Washington and Jerusalem discussed the possibility of resuming major combat operations against Iran.
US President Donald Trump voiced support for Netanyahu on Sunday ahead of the October 27 elections, declaring his “Complete and Total Endorsement” of the longtime leader’s re-election bid.
In a lengthy post on “Truth Social”, Trump praised Netanyahu’s leadership and partnership with Washington, particularly in confronting Iran. He warned that the United States could be forced to take on the burden itself if Israelis chose another leader.
