Gökhan Edman, head coach of Azerbaijan’s junior and youth girls’ national volleyball teams, has outlined his plans for the coming period. He said the teams aim to perform well at EEVZA tournaments, which serve as qualifiers for the European Championship.

Explaining why he accepted the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation’s offer, Edman said there was no language or communication barrier. He said he preferred to pass on his knowledge and experience to local athletes.

Short- and long-term goals

According to the head coach, the U-20 team has been well prepared so far, and the coaching staff intends to build on that progress. They also plan to work effectively with the U-16 team and younger age groups. After the EEVZA tournaments, Edman hopes to travel to the regions to meet coaches and athletes.

Long-term goals include increasing the number of players, creating opportunities for children to start playing volleyball at an earlier age and developing athletes for the senior national team. Edman stressed the importance of working together with Azerbaijani coaches.

He praised the work done with the younger age groups by former head coach Şahin Çatma and said Çatma shared information with him before he joined the team.
