Germany has provided Ukraine with a new support package worth more than €1.3 billion ($1.46 billion), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday during talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
In a statement on “X”, Zelenskyy said the package includes weapons and support for Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of winter. He added that the two sides discussed Ukraine’s need for air defence.
“It includes weapons that will help us now, as well as support for our energy sector ahead of winter – an important energy package. Of course, we discussed the need for air defense, which is critical at this time,” Zelenskyy said.
Agreements cover security and defence cooperation
Ukraine and Germany signed 15 agreements and documents, most of them concerning security cooperation, defence production, procurement, orders for German industry and joint projects in Ukraine.
“The total value of our agreements today is more than €8.5 billion,” Zelenskyy said. He also said a separate agreement would expand cooperation on joint efforts to counter drones.
Merz makes unannounced visit to Kyiv
Merz arrived in the Ukrainian capital on Sunday morning for an unannounced visit. He said he had travelled to Kyiv with the message: “You can rely on us.”
