Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick said the upcoming match against Real Madrid affected his team selection after his side lost 4-2 to Paris Saint-Germain in the third round of the Champions League league phase.
In the match, played in Paris on October 20, Duy scored for PSG in the 38th minute, Hernandez in the 72nd, Vitinha in the 81st and Ruiz in the 86th. Barcelona’s goals came from Espart in the 55th minute and Lamine Yamal in the 79th.
“El Clasico influenced the decisions we made. If our opponent on Sunday were not Real, Rodri would have started. This is not an excuse, but we have to understand that we made mistakes because we lacked freshness. The effort the team has shown in recent weeks has been incredible. We could not prepare sufficiently for this match or recover. We have to analyze what happened and improve certain aspects going forward. We also did many things very well today,” Flick said, according to Footmercato.
Barcelona and Real Madrid will meet in the 10th round of the Spanish league on October 25 at 23:00 Moscow time.
