Five citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including two women and three children, were repatriated from the conflict zones in the Syrian Arab Republic on April 21, 2026. The repatriation was carried out via Turkey through a coordinated effort by the Azerbaijani government.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), which provided the information to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the process adhered to the "Rules for the Repatriation and Rehabilitation of Minor Citizens of Azerbaijan in Difficult Life Situations in a Foreign Country," approved by a decree from President Ilham Aliyev on October 28, 2023. Representatives from relevant state agencies responsible for the repatriation of citizens from Iraq and Syria were dispatched to Istanbul to conduct initial medical and psychological examinations. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Turkey and the Consulate General in Istanbul provided the returnees with necessary documentation and flight tickets to ensure their safe arrival in Baku.

The Azerbaijani government has consistently prioritized the return of its citizens, particularly women and children, from conflict zones in the Middle East. Since the initiation of these humanitarian operations, hundreds of individuals have been brought back to Azerbaijan to undergo comprehensive social rehabilitation and reintegration programs. These measures are designed to provide psychological support and facilitate the transition of repatriates back into society, ensuring their long-term well-being and security within the Republic of Azerbaijan. The MFA emphasized that necessary measures for the repatriation of citizens who have fallen victim to armed conflicts in foreign territories will continue.
