A fire broke out aboard the French Navy’s nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle at Toulon naval base on Monday morning, BFMTV reported.
The blaze was extinguished several hours after it started, the navy said in a statement.
“There were no injuries and no impact was observed on the vessel’s nuclear facilities,” the statement said.
Initial findings suggested the fire was caused by cutting work with a blowtorch, the navy said, adding that investigations were continuing.
The carrier has reportedly been docked in the Toulon roadstead since late August for a “technical stop”. It is expected to remain there until early December.
