Ensuring nuclear security and preventing any actions that could lead to increased tensions or the undermining of the global non-proliferation regime is of critical importance.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, this was stated in a joint statement regarding the situation in Iran by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

Von der Leyen and Costa noted that developments in Iran are a cause for serious concern and emphasized that they remain in close contact with partners in the region. "We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring regional security and stability. All necessary measures will be taken in coordination with EU member states to provide comprehensive support to EU citizens in the Middle East," the statement reads. Furthermore, the leaders called on all parties to the conflict to exercise maximum restraint, protect the civilian population, and strictly adhere to the norms of international law.

The European Union has long maintained a complex diplomatic stance toward Iran, balancing the preservation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with concerns over regional security and human rights. This latest warning comes amid heightened geopolitical volatility in the Middle East, where the EU seeks to play a de-escalatory role. For Azerbaijan, which shares a border with Iran, regional stability is a paramount national interest, as the country continues to promote peace and economic integration across the South Caucasus and neighboring territories.
