Egypt’s parliament adjourned an emergency session on Sunday to discuss whether to authorise military support for Saudi Arabia, Anadolu Agency reported.

A second session on the matter will be held on Monday, the Al Qahera News channel reported, without providing further details.

The session was held at the request of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who said on Saturday that Cairo would take all necessary measures to defend Saudi Arabia if Riyadh requested assistance.

Saudi Arabia has recently come under attack by Yemen’s Houthi group.

Yemen has been in conflict since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in September 2014. The seizure prompted a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognised government.

A UN-brokered truce in April 2022 brought years of relative calm.
