Egypt’s parliament will meet in a plenary session on Sunday to consider authorizing defensive assistance to Saudi Arabia if Riyadh requests it, Anadolu Agency reported.
The session is scheduled for 1 p.m. (1000 GMT) on 18 October 2026, according to a Saturday statement by parliament cited by the newspaper “Al-Ahram”.
Speaking at the Egyptian Military Academy’s graduation ceremony in the New Capital on Saturday, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said Egypt would take all necessary measures to defend Saudi Arabia if it requested assistance.
El-Sisi said any action would require parliamentary approval and called for an emergency session to authorize it should Saudi Arabia seek Egypt’s support.
Saudi Arabia has recently come under attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group.
Yemen has been in conflict since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in September 2014. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government. The latest fighting began in July, after a 2022 truce collapsed.
