Celtic forward Camilo Duran said his move from Qarabag to the Scottish club played an important role in earning a call-up to Colombia’s national team. Speaking to The Scotsman, the 24-year-old said playing in a new league and for a major club had influenced his prospects with the national side.
Duran joined Celtic from Qarabag in the summer for 6 million pounds. He hopes to receive further national-team call-ups if he continues performing at a high level for Celtic.
National-team debut and attacking role
The Colombian made his national-team debut last week. He played two minutes in a 1-0 defeat to Paraguay and 29 minutes in a 2-0 win over Peru. Duran said representing his country had been a childhood dream and named James Rodriguez and Luis Diaz as his idols.
The forward also discussed the possibility of playing alongside Kasper Hogh at Celtic. He said he was ready to play on the wing, through the middle or in the number 10 role, depending on the manager’s instructions: “Kasper and I could play together up front.”
Hogh, signed from Bodo/Glimt for 11 million pounds, has scored three goals for his new team. Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has so far been reluctant to use two strikers. Duran said he was pleased O’Neill had remained in the job and that the manager had given him confidence.
Celtic, who have lost three consecutive matches, will visit Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership today.
