China will continue to support the UN Security Council in carrying out its primary responsibility of maintaining world peace and security, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng told UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.
Han said the international situation was marked by turmoil, while the international system centred on the United Nations faced multiple challenges.
China backs UN action on global challenges
Beijing would support the United Nations in addressing major challenges, including climate change, Han said. China would also back efforts to develop global governance frameworks for emerging areas such as artificial intelligence.
Guterres calls for deeper cooperation
Guterres said the United Nations was ready to deepen cooperation with China, improve global governance, promote a multipolar world and safeguard the common interests of the international community.
