China and Pakistan began their first joint army training exercise on Wednesday in northwestern China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, according to the “China Military Bugle”, the official media account of Beijing’s armed forces.
The opening ceremony of “Karakoram 2026” was held at a training base in the city of Korla.
The two sides exchanged counter-terrorism experience, while Pakistani troops observed Chinese weapons and equipment.
The exercise will focus on joint counter-terrorism operations in high-altitude areas. Training will cover UAV operation, searching for and firing at targets while on the move, and long-range sniping, as well as joint command and live-force exercises.
The training is intended to deepen cooperation and strengthen interoperability between the two sides in counter-terrorism.
