Sumgayit head coach Filipe Candido has commented on his team’s 4-1 win over Gabala in the seventh round of the Misli Premier League.
The Portuguese coach said his team started well, scored early and controlled the first half. After Sumgayit took a 2-0 lead, Gabala pulled one goal back, but Sumgayit scored a third before the break to go in 3-1 ahead. Candido said the result showed that his team had fully deserved the win.
Candido unhappy with second-half performance
The coach said he was not satisfied with his team’s performance in the second half. He said the players had gone a long time without a win and dropped back to protect their lead. The fourth goal allowed them to see out the match more comfortably. Candido also noted that the team had completed 15 days of intensive training during the break for international fixtures.
The coach described Nihad Ahmadzada’s demotion to the second team as a disciplinary decision within the club. He said the player had returned to the first team and earned the opportunity to play against Gabala.
Candido responds to question about Ronaldo
Asked about the discussions surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portugal national team, Candido said the question should not be directed to him. He noted that Portugal had won four matches without Ronaldo and described the forward as one of the world’s best players.
Candido said his team was playing better football with each match but had not yet reached the level it was aiming for. The coach added that there was little time before the next game and that the team needed to recover and begin preparations.
