Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Ali Asadov, the Cabinet of Ministers held a comprehensive meeting dedicated to preparations for the 2029 national population census in Azerbaijan.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the meeting addressed the implementation of tasks arising from President Ilham Aliyev’s decree dated July 7, 2026, titled "On conducting a population census in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2029," as well as the necessary preparations for the event.

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Ali Asadov emphasized that the census serves as the most comprehensive source of data on the population. He highlighted its critical importance for objectively assessing demographic processes and planning the country's socio-economic development.

It was noted that the 2029 census will hold special historical significance. For the first time in the history of Azerbaijan's independence, the census will cover the entire sovereign territory of the country, following the historic victory of the Azerbaijani Army in the Patriotic War and the full restoration of the nation's sovereignty under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

To ensure the execution of the President's decree, the Cabinet of Ministers will approve a corresponding Action Plan. Furthermore, a Central Commission for Assistance to the Population Census, led by a Deputy Prime Minister, will be established to coordinate the activities of central and local executive authorities, institutions, and organizations.

The meeting highlighted that the census will be organized in accordance with United Nations requirements and recommendations, as well as national priorities. Notably, it is planned to be the first census conducted using digital technologies, administrative data, and geospatial information.

Following the opening, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee Azer Mursagulov delivered a report on the preparations. Additionally, Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev reported on the integration of relevant data from state information systems into the State Statistical Committee's database.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Ali Asadov issued specific instructions to relevant government agencies to ensure that all tasks stemming from the Presidential decree, including preparations for and the execution of the census, are carried out in a timely, high-quality, and organized manner.
