Belgian police searched several properties in Brussels and the provinces of Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant as part of a money-laundering investigation reportedly involving family members and associates of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Felix Tshisekedi.

The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed on Wednesday that searches were carried out simultaneously in several municipalities. The judicial investigation was launched at the federal prosecutor’s request after complaints were filed by non-governmental organizations in July 2025.

The office said it would not disclose further details to protect the confidentiality of the investigation and the presumption of innocence.

Belgian media reports said the searches targeted properties belonging to several of Tshisekedi’s relatives and associates. Nine people, reportedly all Belgian nationals, are being investigated over allegations that they played a role in the plundering of mines in the Congolese provinces of Haut-Katanga and Lualaba.

The investigation reportedly also concerns alleged money laundering linked to the exploitation of mining resources in the Central African country.

Media reports further said Tshisekedi and his wife rent a property in the Brussels municipality of Uccle, while their five children are reportedly enrolled in schools in Belgium.
