Baku hands over World Urban Forum baton to Mexico City

Baku has officially handed over the baton of the World Urban Forum (WUF) to Mexico City.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the handover took place during the closing ceremony of the forum, where a special video presentation of Mexico City was showcased. Following this transition, the 14th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF14) will be hosted in the Mexican capital in 2028.

The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in 2001, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. It addresses the challenges of rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, and climate change. Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, was selected to host the 13th session (WUF13) in 2026, highlighting the country's growing role in hosting major international events and promoting sustainable urban development.
