The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued an urgent appeal to the public regarding expected unstable weather conditions.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry's statement highlights the latest forecast from the National Hydrometeorological Service. From the evening of August 30 through September 1, the country is expected to experience unstable weather, characterized by intense rainfall, strong winds, and lightning. The forecast also warns of potential short-term flash floods in certain mountain rivers.

In light of these conditions, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has reiterated essential safety protocols to ensure public protection.

To mitigate risks associated with potential flooding, citizens are advised to avoid areas prone to flash floods and to seek higher ground immediately if threatened. During periods of strong wind, the public is urged to stay away from lightweight structures, temporary buildings, billboards, and to avoid standing under power lines, electrical wires, or tall trees.

Furthermore, the Ministry emphasizes that small vessel operators are strictly prohibited from venturing into the sea during such weather conditions. Given that the summer season often sees high attendance at coastal areas, the Ministry warns that swimming during strong winds poses a significant danger to life.

Regarding lightning safety, the Ministry recommends disconnecting electrical appliances, avoiding the use of telephones (landline or mobile), and staying away from power lines, lightning rods, gutters, and antennas while outdoors. If caught in a vehicle during a lightning storm, drivers are advised to stop, roll up the windows, and wait for the storm to pass.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan is the primary government body responsible for civil defense, disaster management, and fire safety. It plays a critical role in coordinating rescue operations and public awareness campaigns during natural disasters and emergencies. The Ministry frequently issues such warnings to proactively minimize casualties and property damage across the country.

Remember: Negligence toward safety rules is a threat to our lives!
