The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan has issued a formal warning to citizens regarding an increase in fraudulent activities on social media platforms, where scammers are using fake advertisements and pages to misappropriate funds.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, these fraudulent pages often advertise services such as account recovery, the restoration of deleted messages, or other so-called "hacker" services. In many instances, after receiving payment, the perpetrators fail to provide the promised service or attempt to illicitly obtain the victim's personal and banking credentials.
The Ministry advises citizens to verify the legitimacy of any service offers before engaging, to refrain from making payments to unknown individuals, and to avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial information online. In the event of encountering suspicious activity, the public is urged to contact the MIA's "102" Call Center or reach out via the Ministry's official social media accounts.
Cybersecurity experts note that as digital services expand in Azerbaijan, the sophistication of social engineering attacks has also evolved. Law enforcement agencies in the country continue to conduct awareness campaigns to educate the public on digital hygiene and the risks associated with unverified online transactions.
