Azerbaijan is ready to assume the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2028 and host a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State that autumn.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that President Ilham Aliyev made the statement at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
“I would like to express my gratitude for supporting the decision on Azerbaijan’s co-chairmanship of the CIS in 2027. We view this as proof of the high level of trust placed in our country and are ready to actively participate in carrying out our shared tasks,” the head of state said.
The CIS brings together several states that were formerly part of the Soviet Union. Its Council of Heads of State is the organization’s highest body, where member states discuss cooperation and regional priorities.
