Azerbaijan issues weather warning for strong winds

On August 16, strong winds are expected to impact Baku, the Absheron Peninsula, and several other regions across Azerbaijan. The National Hydrometeorological Service has issued yellow and orange weather warnings in response to the anticipated atmospheric conditions.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the meteorological service has categorized the warnings based on the expected wind speeds and regional impact.

In Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, a yellow warning is in effect for north-westerly winds. Similar yellow warnings apply to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as well as the districts of Jabrayil, Zangilan, Fuzuli, Aghdam, Mingachevir, Yevlax, Tartar, Barda, Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Gadabay, Goygol, Aghstafa, Ganja, Tovuz, Shamkir, Samux, Gazakh, Beylagan, Shirvan, Salyan, Gobustan, Imishli, Saatli, Sabirabad, Neftchala, Hajigabul, Khachmaz, Siyazan, Shabran, Guba, Khizi, and Gusar. In these areas, easterly winds are expected to reach speeds of 13.9 to 20.7 meters per second.

Furthermore, an orange warning has been issued for Goranboy, Naftalan, and Dashkasan, where easterly winds are forecast to intensify, reaching speeds between 20.8 and 28.4 meters per second.

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources regularly monitors meteorological shifts to ensure public safety. These weather warnings are part of the state's proactive approach to disaster risk reduction, aimed at alerting citizens and relevant authorities to potential hazards such as falling debris or disruptions to infrastructure caused by high-velocity winds.
