On August 23, the 3rd meeting of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Supreme Interstate Council was held in Tashkent, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the session commenced with a presentation highlighting the friendship, trade, and investment cooperation between the two nations.
During the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the invitation and the hospitality extended to the Azerbaijani delegation. The Azerbaijani leader emphasized the effectiveness of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Investment Fund, noting that the volume of planned investments significantly exceeds the initial $500 million target. President Aliyev also highlighted Uzbekistan's active role in the reconstruction of the liberated Garabagh region, specifically citing the construction of the Mirza Ulugbek school and the establishment of a textile factory in Khankendi, which has created over 200 jobs.
The discussions further covered the expansion of the automotive industry, with plans for a second plant in Hajigabul, and the development of transport and transit infrastructure. President Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to the Zangezur Corridor and the broader Middle Corridor, noting that work on the railway infrastructure in Nakhchivan is underway. He also expressed appreciation for Uzbekistan's support in facilitating Azerbaijan's involvement in the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State, a move that underscores the growing regional integration.
